Malta International Airport VIP Terminal
The VIP Terminal at Malta International Airport is defined by a strong and consistent use of Travertine Romano Cross Cut, allowing materiality to lead the architectural language throughout the space. Most of the works featured are crafted from this stone, used across corridor cladding with a central brass trim inlay, wall and column cladding, as well as stairs and planter detailing, creating a cohesive and grounded visual identity.
The stair railing becomes a sculptural feature in itself. The upper portion is hand-finished from a solid block of Travertine Cross Cut, while the softer curves of the lower section are achieved using 2cm-thick Travertine Cross Cut.
Next to the staircase, the external flooring is executed in bespoke Travertine Cross Cut, while the front entrance features Travertine laid in running lengths, reinforcing a sense of rhythm and arrival. Upon entering the terminal, the floor is also Travertine Cross Cut flooring accented by a central inset slab of Azul Macaubas Quartzite, introducing contrast while maintaining balance.
The reception desk is custom made in Pietra di Prun marble, distinguished by a carefully hand-fabricated curved corner that softens the geometry of the space. In the lounge area, the bar is cut from Atlantic Grey Quartzite, adding depth and movement through its natural veining.
In the toilet areas, Avocatus Quartzite is used across both flooring and wall cladding, extending to a custom vanity with an integrated sink.
Together, these elements form a space where stone is not treated as a surface finish, but as an integral architectural component, shaping both the experience and identity of the space.
